Picnik 2008 Year in Review

The Point: 2008 was a spectacular year for Picnik. Traffic enjoyed a 1400% increase, the Freemium business model was launched with the unveiling of the “free side”, business and product partnerships kept coming with the addition of FontShop, Myspace, Photobox, etc. There were lots of new features added and tons of press mentions and awards, including the I.D. Award for Interactive Best in Show. This post just had to list all those things not only for showing off to our users but also support a concurrent PR “momentum” push.

Picnik One Point Oh

The Point: Picnik has launched! And has begun taking people’s money! This blog post announced that, set the price point, established expectations for the bang-for-those-bucks, and announced new partnerships:

Photobucket: A new integration with Photobucket’s millions of users is announced while reminding people of all the other hugely trafficky partnerships we had like Flickr, Picasa and Facebook.

New Effects and Functionality: Announced Effect painting in a selection of Effects, something which was very popular and very well-received, as well as a whole new set of Effects, plus the new Shape Tool, Touch-Ups, and additions to the Frames section. Shapes and Touch-Ups went on to be, besides Effects, the biggest selling features.
