Picnik Hayride

The Point: The editor of The Haystack Needle was a former editor of Redbook whom our CEO had built up a really good relationship with before leaving that publication. So this post was designed to thank her for being such a big fan of Picnik and because we loved her new blog.

FOOTBALL!

FOOTBALL!

The Point: We had a whole new set of football related shapes and stickers, plus a useful new Effect ready for the first week of February wherein a certain popular championship game occurs between two teams of American football players representing their respective cities, the names of which and the images, copyrights, trademarks and pretty much anything associated with said sporting event are tightly controlled by whole phalanxes of lawyers that no small plucky Seattle startup wants to mess with. So I had some fun with it. And pointed out we get more users than they get move viewers.

Picnik 2008 Year in Review

The Point: 2008 was a spectacular year for Picnik. Traffic enjoyed a 1400% increase, the Freemium business model was launched with the unveiling of the “free side”, business and product partnerships kept coming with the addition of FontShop, Myspace, Photobox, etc. There were lots of new features added and tons of press mentions and awards, including the I.D. Award for Interactive Best in Show. This post just had to list all those things not only for showing off to our users but also support a concurrent PR “momentum” push.

Dreaming of a White Picnik

Dreaming of a White Picnik

The Point: We were having a really snowy couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas that year. I really wanted to reference it in the line about being unable to find their cars, let alone go downtown for last minute shopping, so why not Picnik! Also, after the “Holidays” confusion of the December Flickr Picnikers post, I was reluctant to use that word to reference the Christmas holiday, specifically, so I borrowed the line from Bing Crosby to reference Christmas without actually saying so.

Clone Tool: Out of the Sheep Paddock and Into Your Browser

The Point: I wanted to make a clone joke. And since the most famous clone in the world is the erstwhile Dolly the Sheep. So clones: out of the sheep paddock and into your browser!
