Picnik One Point Oh

The Point: Picnik has launched! And has begun taking people’s money! This blog post announced that, set the price point, established expectations for the bang-for-those-bucks, and announced new partnerships:

Photobucket: A new integration with Photobucket’s millions of users is announced while reminding people of all the other hugely trafficky partnerships we had like Flickr, Picasa and Facebook.

New Effects and Functionality: Announced Effect painting in a selection of Effects, something which was very popular and very well-received, as well as a whole new set of Effects, plus the new Shape Tool, Touch-Ups, and additions to the Frames section. Shapes and Touch-Ups went on to be, besides Effects, the biggest selling features.

The Point: My first blog post for the Picnik Blog, this post in the middle of September, ten days before the 1.0 launch needed to itemize the crazy amounts of stuff that were being released in a quick hits but engaging way.

Type has landed! Humorously referencing the fact that what most people wanted a text tool for was to make LOLcats. But remind them that we’re here for their more contemplative moments, too.

Facebook Friends Photo browsing. Explaining a complicated discoverability situation while also making it funny. “Your friends’ worlds are at your fingertips!” referencing and updating the tired old line “The world at your fingertips” while also winking at and — hopefully diffusing — the commonly expressed privacy concerns of having one’s photos available for others to edit.

Facebook Post to My Newsfeed. Again, pointing out a small-but-useful bit of functionality that the average Facebook user might never notice.

Facebook one-click photo editing. Calling out another bit of Facebook functionality and reminding people to install Picnik in their Facebook accounts. As of this blog post, we had xx installations.
