The Point: We had a whole new set of football related shapes and stickers, plus a useful new Effect ready for the first week of February wherein a certain popular championship game occurs between two teams of American football players representing their respective cities, the names of which and the images, copyrights, trademarks and pretty much anything associated with said sporting event are tightly controlled by whole phalanxes of lawyers that no small plucky Seattle startup wants to mess with. So I had some fun with it. And pointed out we get more users than they get move viewers.

Dreaming of a White Picnik

The Point: We were having a really snowy couple of weeks in the run up to Christmas that year. I really wanted to reference it in the line about being unable to find their cars, let alone go downtown for last minute shopping, so why not Picnik! Also, after the “Holidays” confusion of the December Flickr Picnikers post, I was reluctant to use that word to reference the Christmas holiday, specifically, so I borrowed the line from Bing Crosby to reference Christmas without actually saying so.

Eye Color, Oh My!
Monday, November 10th, 2008The Point: Eye Color was always going to be the biggest money earner, and as with any beauty tool, a delicate touch is needed to avoid criticism, especially with the large number of young girls in our user base. Also: Seasonal launches can easily alienate the Southern Hemisphere so even though this was entirely a Northern-dominated release, the post was designed to show a little love to our antipodean users.
